Pomegranates at Easter

Last year Waitrose launched an unbelievably realistic chocolate pomegranate as part of their Easter range, although it looked spectacular it won't be back on the shelves this year possibly because it doesn't count as one of your five a day and costs more than a pot of pomegranate seeds.

Pomegranates have long featured over Easter and are almost a super fruit of religious symbolism. Perhaps the strong red of the pomegranate and its juices have been associated with blood. Whilst the prominence of seeds in pomegranates could signify hope, new beginnings and even fertility.

However we look back at pomegranates' place in celebrations, they undoubtedly bring joy, colour and goodness to any dish.

Consider these recipe ideas this Easter for a little something special:

Roast chicken with sticky pomegranate

Apple & pomegranate crumble
